1) Carefully complete application!
- Apply Online when possible.
More and more schools prefer this method and may even require
it!
IF YOU APPLY VIA PAPER
- Use neat handwriting (in blue
or black ink!) OR type the application.
- Make sure you are giving
schools current and correct information.
- Be careful with the application
~ this is the first impression that schools have of you ... do
you want to show them a wrinkle mess?
- Do not have scratch-outs, or
scribbles on your application. If you make a mistake, use
white-out.
- Make sure you follow the
directions explicitly. Schools ask for certain information for a
reason. Make sure you are giving them everything they want. If
you don't know the answer to a question or you need help, ask
your counselor!
2) Check for and enclose ALL
materials that need to be sent in.
Examples:
- Application Fee
- Secondary School
Report/Counselor page
- Essay
- Recommendations
- List of Activities and
Achievements
3) Complete a Transcript
Request Form
(click to the left or get one from the Guidance Resource Center).
If you are under 18 years of age, your parent or guardian will
have to sign for the transcript.
4) Attach the Transcript
Request fee.
$2.00 for each transcript that you are requesting.
5) Attach postage for the
application.
Many applications require more than $.39 so please be aware of
this when turning in an application.
6) Turn it in to the MAIN
SCHOOL OFFICE!
Your counselor will get your application, materials, and your
transcript. We will review it, and if everything is O.K. we will
send it in for you. If we have questions, we will find you.
Did you apply online?
Applying to college via the
internet is a convenient and sometimes less expensive method of
applying to a college or university. However, if you apply online
you still need to request that an official transcript of credits
is sent from Elder High School to the school you are applying to.
You may also have to print off a "Secondary School Report" or
Counselor Page for your guidance counselor to complete. If this is
the case follow steps 2-6 as stated above.
