SEPTEMBER

  • Visit the Guidance Resource Center
  • Meet with your counselor ~ your counselor is there to help you personally as well as educationally, so visit when there is anything on your mind that may be important to you, or if you have questions regarding college, careers/jobs, etc.
  • Register for the SAT/ACT
  • Visit colleges
  • Sign up to attend one of the College Representative Visits in the Guidance Resource Center during the school day
  • Start turning in completed college applications and material ~ Don't forget the "Transcript Request" form ~ check colleges for specific deadline dates for Early Decision, scholarships, and regular admission
  • Begin asking teachers, employers, and people that know you for recommendations for college and scholarship applications (use the Recommendation Form)
  • Check out the scholarship board on PrepHQ
  • Begin to apply for scholarships
  • Complete a list of activities and achievements throughout your high school career ~ do not forget anything
  • Write a personal statement on why you are the best candidate for school, scholarship, etc.
  • Carefully read over the Guidance Newsletter and take it home to your parents

OCTOBER

  • Attend a college fair ~ The National College Fair
  • Visit colleges
  • Sign up to attend one of the College Representative Visits in the Guidance Resource Center during the school day
  • Turn in completed college applications ~ check colleges for specific deadline dates for Early Decision, scholarships, and regular admission
  • Re-take the SAT and/or ACT
  • Complete scholarship applications with all required materials
  • Visit colleges to which you are applying ~ specifically in departments that you are interested in
  • October 1 is the deadline for National Merit Semi-Finalists to give completed application to their counselor
  • Ask teachers and people who "really" who know you for recommendations for college and scholarships
  • Continue to perfect your list of achievements and activities and personal statement

NOVEMBER

  • Sign up to attend one of the College Representative Visits in the Guidance Resource Center during the school day
  • Turn in completed college applications ~ check colleges for specific deadline dates for "Early Decision", scholarships, and regular admission
  • Complete scholarship applications with all required materials
  • November 1 is the deadline for many university programs, "Early Decision"
  • Continue to perfect your list of achievements and activities and personal statement
  • Some colleges require the CSS Profile for financial aid that is to be completed in the fall ~ Check specific college criteria regarding financial aid options

DECEMBER

  • Turn in completed college applications ~ check colleges for specific deadline dates for "Early Decision", scholarships, and regular admission
  • Complete scholarship applications with all required materials
  • Make sure all application and scholarship materials (including transcript request forms) are turned in to the main office by December 10 ~ this way they can be processed before Christmas break
  • Notification of "Early Decision" acceptance to colleges and universities
  • Read over all Guidance Newsletters and make sure they go home!
  • Make sure teachers and/or counselors have "The Secondary School Report" for certain schools by December 1 for January 1 application deadlines
  • Notification of acceptance to colleges and universities

JANUARY

  • Turn in completed college applications ~ check colleges for specific deadline dates for "Early Decision", scholarships, and regular admission
  • Complete scholarship applications with all required materials
  • January 1 - February 15 submit the FAFSA (Free Application for Student Aid) forms ~ check with each school regarding their financial aid procedures
  • Notification of acceptance to colleges and universities

FEBRUARY

  • Turn in completed college applications ~ check colleges for specific deadline dates for "Early Decision", scholarships, and regular admission
  • Complete scholarship applications with all required materials
  • January 1 - February 15 submit the FAFSA (Free Application for Student Aid) forms ~ check with each school regarding their financial aid procedures
  • February 10 is the deadline for submitting "Mid-Year" grades or 1st semester grades to those schools who request them ~ some admittance may rely on your performance during 1st semester
  • Notification of acceptance to colleges and universities

MARCH

  • Re-take Ohio Proficiency Test if needed
  • Complete scholarship applications with all required materials
  • Notification of acceptance to colleges and universities

APRIL

  • Complete scholarship applications with all required materials
  • Notification of acceptance to colleges and universities
  • Look for a summer job ~ to help differ some of the college expense ~ check the board in the Guidance Resource Center

MAY

  • Complete scholarship applications with all required materials
  • Notification of acceptance to colleges and universities
  • May 1 is the traditional reply date in which you must notify your institution whether you will be attending in the fall
  • GRADUATION!!!

JUNE

  • Enjoy the time off and get ready for your first year of college!!!
