SUMMER
- Start visiting and researching
colleges.
- Participate in a summer job and/or
summer sports, community service, activities, clubs.
THROUGHOUT THE SCHOOL YEAR
- Visit the Guidance Resource Center.
- Meet with your counselor ~ your
counselor is there to help you personally as well as educationally, so
visit when there is anything on your mind that may be important to
you, or if you have questions regarding college, careers/jobs, etc.
- Know what courses are needed for
graduation.
- Get involved with activities, clubs,
and organizations ~ pick activities that are fun AND meaningful ~ when
you do apply to college or for jobs, potential schools and employers
look for a person who is "well-rounded" and someone who is not afraid
to get involved.
- Become familiar with college entrance
requirements.
- Start exploring careers, colleges,
and majors.
- Keep up good grades ~ many colleges
and employers look at your high school career as a whole, they do not
just look at the work you have accomplished your Junior and Senior
years in high school.
- The PSAT/NMSQT (A pre-SAT) will be
administered to students in 5L math and/or English classes in October.
- The PLAN (A pre-ACT) will be
administered to all other Sophomores.
- Work hard to pass all sections of the
Ohio 9th grade proficiency test ~ if there are sections that still
need to be passed.
- Attend a college fair ~ The National
College Fair is usually in mid-October at the Cincinnati Convention
Center.
