In the first semester of the year the Guidance Department at Elder presents a Freshman Study Skills and Orientation class. This class incorporates areas of:

1) Elder orientation including: class requirements, transcript information, GPA and Class Rank status, academic policies, clubs and organizations, etc.
2) Organization Skills
3) Time Management
4) Being Successful in the Classroom
5) Test Taking Strategies
6) Goal Setting
7) Study Tips
8) Decision Making Strategies
9) Stress Management Skills
10) Planning for the Future : College Research, Career Exploration, etc.

During the second semester of the year the Guidance Department, along with the "Care Team" at Elder, focus on support groups that all students can get involved with, including: Study Skills, Anger Management, Grief and Loss, Conflict/Resolution, Divorce, etc. Students complete a survey during the first semester, and those interested in becoming involved with one of these groups can indicate this at that time.

For students who are not interested in becoming involved with a structured group, but still have interest in receiving help in one or more of these areas should see their counselor or the school nurse. Students who are solely interested in study skills may find the PowerPoint presentations to the left helpful. Click on a link, and if you need more information, see your counselor.
